FINDING COMMON GROUND IN OUR COMMUNITY

The APMG mission is to enrich the mind and nourish the spirit; to expand the perspectives of our audiences; and help them strengthen their communities. Given that THEIR communities are OUR communities, it is up to us to better understand the communities where we operate if we want to be part of strengthening those communities.

Christo Rey High School is one model that is working.
100% of seniors accepted into college.
They’ve been open about 5 years and they have delivered these amazing results virtually every year.  These kids don’t start off as privileged or high performing, either. In order to enter the 9th grade, they have to be reading at at least a 5th grade level.  The education is rigorous and standards based. If they don’t pass the standards they stay after school or take summer school.  Each student also has a job – They work in a sponsored company 1 day per week.  The company pays the school for the student worker, and that’s how they afford tuition.  Many students end up working at the same company all through high school and some even after college.
